Jhapa — Under the “Child Marriage and Early Union Reduction Project,” Mahila Janachetana Kendra has successfully organized the street-theater performance (Kachahari Drama) carrying the core message “Marriage After 20” (“Bihebari 20 Barsha Pari”) across three working municipalities: Mechinagar Municipality, Barhadashi Rural Municipality, and Kachankawal Rural Municipality.
The awareness events took place in Mechinagar on Bhadra 1, 2083 (August 17, 2026), followed by performances at Barhadashi and Kachankawal (Hukahuki Chowk) on Bhadra 2, 2083 (August 18, 2026).
A Powerful Depiction Against Social Evil
The forum drama vividly depicted the long-term impacts of early marriage on a young person’s education, health, economic well-being, and overall future—especially for young women. Through engaging performances, the artists emphasized that child marriage is not a tradition to be maintained, but a harmful practice—both legally and socially—urging everyone to put an end to unions under the age of 20.
Following each performance, open interactive discussions were held with the audience. Participants shared perspectives on how families, schools, local leaders, and the broader community must take collective responsibility to eradicate child marriage.
