Mahila Janachetana Kendra (MJK) recently renewed two adolescent girls’ groups—Phulbari Kishori Samuha in Kachankawal RM and Pathivara Kishori Samuha in Barhadashi RM—under the “Preventing and Responding to Child Marriage and Early Union” project. The initiative brought together 40 adolescent girls aged 10 to 18 (20 per group) to strengthen leadership, raise awareness, and build a safe space for collective action against child marriage, early union, and gender-based violence.
Key Highlights of the Renewal
- Dates & Locations: Renewed on 22 August in Kachankawal RM (Phulbari) and 24 August in Barhadashi RM (Pathivara).
- Core Focus Areas: Interactive sessions covering the causes, consequences, and legal aspects of child marriage in Nepal, as well as breaking the silence around sexual violence and rape.
- Community Outreach: Girls were encouraged to act as change agents by sharing awareness messages with their parents, peers, and broader communities.
- Leadership Support: Sessions were conducted with key MJK team members, including Executive Director Radha Pradhan, Project Coordinator Manila Uprety, Finance Officer Riya Dahal, Office Assistant Bigyan Rai, and Field Mobilizers Khanjan Rajbansi and Puja Kamet.
