Implemented as a Consortium Partner (2014–2018)
From 2014 to 2018, Mahila Janachetana Kendra (MJK) served as a key consortium partner in the “Child Rights and Peace Education” project. Operating throughout the Jhapa District, this initiative was designed to integrate the principles of human rights and peaceful coexistence into the local educational ecosystem.
Following periods of social transition in Nepal, the need for stable, rights-based education became a priority for the Jhapa region. MJK identified several critical areas for intervention:
Educational Gaps: A lack of formal resources and extracurricular focus on child rights within rural schools.
Conflict Resolution: The need to instill “Peace Education” to help students and stakeholders manage social challenges constructively.
Resource Scarcity: Many local schools lacked the necessary library infrastructure and reading materials to support a modern rights-based curriculum.
Child Club Formation: Establishing and mobilizing student-led child clubs to act as internal advocates for safety and rights within their schools.
Capacity Building: Providing intensive training for students, stakeholders, and concerned sectors on the fundamental principles of child rights and protection.
Resource Support: Distributing books and establishing library facilities to ensure long-term access to educational materials.
Information Dissemination: Creating and distributing tailored IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials to reinforce peace education and rights awareness at the community level.
Consortium Role: Implementing Partner (Jhapa District)
