In Kachankawal Rural Municipality–7, a 17-year-old adolescent girl (name withheld) went missing from her home one afternoon in early April 2026. Given her age and circumstances, there was a serious concern that she might be at risk of child marriage. Her family and community were deeply worried.
At this critical moment, a dedicated social mobilizer from Mahila Janachetana Kendra (name withheld) took immediate action. With strong commitment and leadership, she initiated a coordinated response—mobilizing community members, engaging relevant stakeholders, and widely sharing information through appropriate communication channels.
Thanks to these timely and collective efforts, the girl was safely located and returned home within two weeks. Most importantly, a potential case of child marriage was successfully prevented, safeguarding her right to education, health, and a secure future.
Beyond this incident, the social mobilizer has been actively facilitating weekly adolescent group meetings in the community. Through these sessions, girls are empowered with knowledge on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), confidence-building, life skills, and awareness of harmful practices such as child marriage. Her continuous efforts are helping young girls become more informed, confident, and self-reliant.
Key Message:
Timely action, community collaboration, and dedicated grassroots workers play a crucial role in preventing child marriage and protecting the future of adolescents.
