Three-Day Training on SRHR, Cyber Violence, and Digital Safety for Adolescent Girls.
Mahila Janachetana Kendra recently successfully completed a three-day training on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Cyber Violence, and Digital Safety for adolescent girls. The training was organized under the project “Prevention and Responding of Child Marriage and Early Union” in coordination with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, with the slogan “Stop Child Marriage, Protect Childhood.” The program was conducted at the organization’s own hall in Mechinagar–6, Kakarbhitta, with the participation of 12 adolescent girls from grades 7 to Plus Two representing Mechinagar Municipality, Kachankawal Rural Municipality, and Barhadashi Rural Municipality.
The training was formally inaugurated by Ward Chairperson of Mechinagar–6, Mr. Lalit Bahadur Tamang. The opening session was attended by distinguished guests including Ms. Jayanti Kharel, Chief of the Women, Children and Social Welfare Section of Mechinagar Municipality; Ms. Ambika Bhandari, Vice President of Nepal Journalists Federation, Koshi Province. Speakers emphasized the importance of preventing child marriage, avoiding impulsive decisions during adolescence, and empowering Gen Z girls to make informed and responsible life choices with proper guidance from parents and communities.
On the first day, SRHR expert Ms. Prakriti Bastola facilitated sessions on sexuality, sexual behavior, sexual orientation, comprehensive sexuality education, violence, crime, and relevant legal provisions. The second day featured sessions led by school nurse Ms. Josna Budhathoki, who covered adolescent issues, good and bad touch, sexually transmitted infections, family planning, safe abortion, menstruation, and child marriage. On the final day, Sub-Inspector Ms. Milan Kumari Rai, Kakarbhitta, provided practical training on cyber violence and digital safety.
