Memorandum Submittion to Retain the Legal Marriage Age at 20 Years.

The adolescent girls’ group submitted a memorandum to Vice Chairperson Shanta Devi Shivakoti at the Barhadashi Rural Municipality Office, Jhapa, and to the Ward No. 7 Office, demanding that the legal marriage age remain 20 years. Similarly, in Kachankawal Rural Municipality, Jhapa, the adolescent girls’ group and students submitted a memorandum to Chairperson Kalendra Prasad Singh Rajbanshi and the Ward No. 5 Office, urging them to maintain the current legal marriage age.
On 2081/10/22 B.S. (February 4, 2025), a memorandum was also submitted to the Chief District Officer of Jhapa, Mr. Gopal Kumar Adhikari, the Administrative Officer of Mechinagar Municipality, Mr. Agni Pr. Adhikari, and the Head of Women and Children’s Affairs, Ms. Jayanti Kharel. Mahila Janchetana Kendra, Mechinagar Lady Jaycees, and Makhmali Women’s Savings and Credit Cooperative expressed their strong concerns regarding this proposal. We have demanded the immediate rejection of the proposal and called for the legal marriage age in Nepal to remain at 20 years.
